OUR HISTORY

On the 6th of October 1953, the first meeting of the Rivoli Morning Gardeners was held at the home of Mrs. John Dennis.  Quoting from the Minutes of that meeting, “This meeting was the result of much planning and hard work by Mrs. Kenneth Dunwody and Mrs. W. D. Akers.  These two have talked of Rivoli Garden Club for many years and after contacting a number of prospects who might also be interested found sufficient number to warrant a definite procedure.  Mrs. Trice, Mrs. Akers, Mrs. Dunwody, and Mrs. Dennis met one afternoon at Mrs. Dunwody’s, discussed our plans, and decided that we would resign from our present club and form the Rivoli Morning Gardeners, with Mrs. Dunwody to act as Program Chairman.  Mrs. Redd and Mrs. Horgan also resigned from the other club.”  Mrs. Kenneth Dunwody acted as President and stated the purpose of the club was “to beautify our highways along Forsyth Road and Rivoli Drive.”  Officers elected were Mrs. W. D. Akers, President; Mrs. Ernest Redd, Vice President; Mrs. Reginald Trice, Treasurer; Mrs. Kenneth Dunwody, Program Chairman; and Mrs. John Dennis, Secretary.  The seventeen ladies present became the Charter Members.  In 1965, the name changed to Rivoli Garden Club.
